natureimages > American Shad A net full of American Shad is hauled in at the Lewis Island Fishery on the Delaware River in Lambertville, NJ. The Lewis family has been netting the shad for four generations between St. Patricks Day and the end of May. The shad are sold for between $4 and $6 a fish, but its more about preserving the legacy for this, the last remaining commerical shad fishery on the Delaware River, than making a profit.
